HOYS 2007
The 2007 Show was a runaway success again with record crowds and a fantastic week for the Welsh Breeds. The large breed mountain & moorland class was dominated by Welsh Cob Section Ds. Welsh part bred ponies dominated the mini show pony classes where the vast majority of the qualifying places were taken by ponies tracing their origins to the Welsh Stud Book. What a testament to the breed that so many Welsh ponies & cobs not only qualified, but were also placed & won championships. All Welsh results are listed below.

Unforgetable Belgian Show Experience
On September 8th, 2007 Emyr Evans (Nobby) of the Aberaeron Stud judged the Welsh sections at Heist-Op-Den-Berg, Belgium. The quality of the Welsh horses and Ponies was of the highest standard & the enthusiasm of the handlers & supporters inspirational!
The champion was
Gwenllan Guto Goch - sec C stallion & reserve Rode… sec D mare.
A big thank you to Belgium WPCS members for such a wonderful welcome. We were treated like kings & had an unforgettable experience.

Here are some photos of the champions…

Palomino Welsh Cob

First foal 2007
Aberaeron Blodyn Tatws, Sec D, Palomino. 4 days old in this pic! Born on May 1, 2007 Arwen has done us proud with her pretty palomino filly. The 5th generation of Aberaeron breeding. Her sire is Janton Lightning, click here to see his breeding. She's been named Aberaeron Blodyn Tatws. Congratulations to new owners Catrin, Beth, Bryn Walker & family.

She is by Janton Lightning, who's by Janton Meredith. Lightening has the legendary Welsh Cob Llanarth Braint in his lineage many times. Llanarth Braint was born in 1948. He was Palomino (later turned chestnut) and stood at 14.2hh. His sire was Llanarth Goldcrest and his dam was Llanarth Kilda. He is the sire of Llanarth Flying Saucer, Llanarth Meredith ap Braint and Parc Jolly.

Llanarth Braint's showing excellence really began in 1958 at the Ponies of Briton Show at Harrogate, Braint received the championship
in hand, won 1st prize under saddle, in harness and was crown Supreme Champion of the whole show. Perhaps what was equally important was the fact that, in the Welsh Cob class, the next five to him were all his progeny!
After four successive third prizes at the Royal Welsh Shows, in 1957, 1958, 1959 and1960, Llanarth Braint stood at the top of the ten-strong stallion class and he also stood reserve to Parc Lady for the George, Prince of Wales Cup.
Llanarth Braint's moment of glory was without doubt at the 1969 Royal Agricultural Society of England Show where, at nineteen years of age, he put up the show of his life to stand Champion Welsh Cob followed by his various descendants of all ages and sexes.
It was on the 20th of May 1978 a very large number of well wishers attended the thirtieth birthday party of Llanarth Braint and he died on 6th January 1979.

Another filly foal!
Aberaeron Filly, Sec D, Bay. 1 day old in this pic!
Born on May 3, 2007 Glaw has gave birth to this gorgeous little bay filly. She has the most beautiful dished head, is a real character & has been named Aberaeron Mai!
Congratulations to new owners Rhydian, June Howells & family.

To see pix of her full brother quest, click here.

Her sire is Deicin Comet, by Derwen Supreme.
Derwen Supreme's was by
Derwen Rosina's Last who was born in 1970. He was black with a star and two white hind fetlocks. He stood at 14.3hh. His dam was Derwen Rosina and his sire was Nebo Black Magic.
Derwen Rosina's Last made his mark at stud, topping the 1976 Cob sire ratings with such as Derwen Telynores and Derwen Serenllys. Derwen Rosina's Last was equal top sire, with Nebo Black Magic, in 1978 and fourth in 1979.

Nebo Black Magic
was born in 1962. He was black with a star and two white hind fetlocks standing at 15hh. His sire was Pentre Eiddwen Comet and his dam was Tyngwndwn Mathrafal Lady. Nebo Black Magic won the 1971 male championship at the Royal Welsh Show. He was reserve overall champion to the winning mare Parc Rachel at the 1971 and 1975 Royal welsh shows. In 1973 he went one stage better winning the George Prince of Wales Cup from the winning mare Tyhen Mattie.

Aberaeron Glaw
's grandsires are Parc Welsh Flyer & Ceredigion Tywysog.
Parc Welsh Flyer was a Royal Welsh winner at 3 years old, 3 times tricolour at Lampeter Stallion Show and Supreme champion at the Royal of England show in 1974.
Ceredigion Tywysog was very successful in the show ring, both in hand and in harness. A very under-rated sire, Tywysog's stock had the rare ability to be outstanding show jumpers & excelled as both show horses & performance horses.
